The Odi chats with Jorge Garcia.

Hi Losties,

As many of you know by now, earlier this week The Odi had an opportunity to chat with LOST Star and fan favorite Jorge Garcia (Hurley). Garcia took time from his busy filming schedule and was absolutely great and very candid. He talked about his hobbies, his blog (Dispatches from the Island) and of course LOST.

The LOST talk covered everything from some funny/favorite moments of his character to talking about the second hour of the Season 5 premiere Episode 5x02 The Lie. We of course asked him several of the questions that you all sent in. He loved them and answered several of them, including his thoughts about time travel, the Hurley Bird, whether he thinks Hurley is "Special", Libby and so much more!!

Jorge did reveal/clarify a previous minor spoiler about the Smoke Monster that occurs at the 68 minute mark. He also confirmed that he is reading the script for Episode 5x13 and whether he appears or not.

The interview has been uploaded to iTunes as well, but if you can not listen via iTunes, you can use the audio player or download link below.

Jughead photo connection.

Hi Losties,

I just wanted to post this picture to keep you entertained until I post the blog.

This is the woman Desmond talks to at Oxford.
This is the woman at the Oceanic gate in Exodus part2.

Because You Left.

Let's talk about LOST! Because You Left.

8:15. The Alarm is beeping. Pierre Cheng and wife are waking up; the baby also has been woken up.
It’s "his" turn to tend to the baby.
Cheng feeds the baby and readies himself for the day.
We pass through imagery that is very much like meeting Desmond in the Swan hatch".  {Shaving, brush teeth, etc}
Record on the record player skips; the needle is stuck ("If you can’t make a record").

Dharma folk, dressed in regular clothes go about their daily chores.
Cheng opens a door to reveal a film crew (Dressed in Dharma jumpsuits) and film set.
The Doc proclaims he doesn’t need a script.
Dharma orientation film #2, take 1.
A dude looking like Sawyers stand in is behind the camera. “Action.”
Dr. Marvin Candle introduces the orientation film for Station 2, The Arrow.
This Station’s primary objective is to develop defensive strategies and gather intelligence on the islands hostile indigenous population.
Eric, a construction worker storms in announcing to Dr. Cheng, they have a problem down at the Orchid.
(Click the pics!)

The Orchid is being constructed; Dharma vans and workers are busy.
Cheng takes the elevator down. He looks focused (or pissed).
The Foreman tells Candle, “We were cutting through the rock, right on your specs. That’s when the drill melted. 3 meters from the margin line on the plans.”
They went through six carbon drill bits then the last one just fried. He goes on, ”Then my operator grabbing his head and freaking out….”
They sonar imaged the wall; there’s an open chamber behind the rock. There’s something in there.
{Five holes are drilled}
The Foreman suggests laying charges to get to whatever is inside the wall. Cheng won’t have it!
Cheng tells the foreman if they can harness the limitless energy, they can manipulate time.
Foreman asks “What? We’re gonna go back and kill Hitler?”
Cheng- “Don’t be absurd! There are rules! Rules that can’t be broken.”
Cheng tells him not to drill any further; he doesn’t want to risk releasing the energy. A bloody nosed worker is being placed on a stretcher.
Cheng bumps into Faraday (Wearing an Orchid logo hardhat).
Cheng tells him to “Watch yourself!”
 Faraday- “Sorry sir. It won’t happen again.
The foreman says to Faraday, “Did you hear that? Time travel. How stupid does that guy think we are?

Inside the funeral parlor, Ben, dressed in black, tells Jack to close that up now, let's get him in the van; it’s out back.
Jack asks where they are taking him.
Ben tells him they’ll worry about that "once they pick up Hugo.”
Jack- “Hurley is locked away in a mental institution.”
Ben- “Which should make recruiting him considerably easier than the rest of your friends.”
Jack feels "They" are not his friends anymore.
Ben-“Well that’s the spirit.”
Jack-“How did we get here? {He asks this to Kate in the jungle too.} How did all this happen?"
Ben- "It’s because you left."

At the Motel Jack is shaving {Mirror. Watch. Cut on right side forehead. Football game on the TV}
Ben is laying out clothes.
Jack asks "So once we get Hurley, then what?"
Ben- "Then we get Sun. Sayid. And Kate of course."
Jack- "I don't see that happening. When was the last time you saw him? I mean Locke."
Ben- (sighs) "On the Island. In the Orchid Station. {The Orchid Station is shown.} Below the greenhouse. I told him I was sorry for making his life so miserable. And then he left. So obviously John's visit to you made an impression. What did he say to make you such a believer?"
Jack- "Sawyer. Juliet. Everyone from the boat…everyone we left behind. John said that they'd die too if I didn't come back." {not 'go' back?}
Ben- "Did he tell you what happened to them after the island moved?"
Jack- "No. No he didn't."
Ben- "Then I guess we'll never know."

3 Years Earlier:
Ben pushes the frozen wheel. The “island” residents are experiencing buzzing and humming and bright light. The island disappears.

John stands in the rain and looks at his right hand. {Was he holding something?}
He’s confused and calls out for “Richard?….Anyone?” {JOHN’S EYES.}

On the zodiac raft, Frogurt asks what happened. "What was that light?"
Faraday- “We must’ve been inside the radius.”

Shirtless Sawyer asks Juliet, “What the hell was that?”
She doesn’t know. Sawyer asks where the freighter is.
Juliet comments, “Maybe it went down.”
Sawyer- “Can’t be, a minute ago it was coughing “black smoke” now there’s nothing."
The helicopter was heading for that boat.

Bernard is calling out for Rose; he can’t find her.   Rose comes running out from the “church”. They all shouldn’t be panicking, but the camp is gone.  We see the camp residents looking around, lost. The kitchen and tents, gone. {Note bright flowers.}
Bernard, “…gone. Everything but us.”
Faraday in his tie, tells them it’s not gone. Charlotte hugs Faraday. Sawyer doesn’t know who Faraday is.
Miles informs Sawyer, “That’s Dan. He’s our physicist.”
Dan tells them they have no time. {lol! No time!}  He wants Juliet to take them to something man made, anything built, any kind of a landmark. She suggests a Dharma station that's 15 minutes away.
Sawyer asks, “You mean the hatch? The one we blew up?”
Dan feels that’s perfect. They need to get moving before it happens again.
Dan tells Sawyer, The camp isn’t gone; It hasn’t been built yet.

Kate’s house:

Cartoons on the TV. Coffee.
Aaron who is watching the cartoon says, “Choo choo, tunnel.” {N.Y. train-subway?} (Eggs, funny pages.)
Kate thinks Choo choo knows better than that, “He’s goes into that tunnel, he’s never coming back out.“
The doorbell rings. Kate tells Goober to watch is cartoons; she'll get the door. There are two men at the door (Dan Norton) from the law firm Agostoni and Norton. They claim to have a court order for Kate to relinquish hers and Aaron's blood. This of course, is an effort to determine their relationship. Mr. Norton isn't at liberty to divulge the identity (ID) of his client.
Kate's not having any of that so she demands they get off her property.
He threatens to have to come back with the sheriff. She tells him to come back with the sheriff; she shuts the door.
Kate kicks into her “on the run“ mode. Packing clothes, large amount of cash (in a yellow envelope) and guess what else?....A gun! (Really)
Aaron asks her where she's going. Kate tells the boy they're going on vacation.
There's an interesting photo of Jack with a blond young child (in vibrant color).
Kate takes the keys and tells Aaron to "Say bye bye, baby."

Sawyer tells Juliet he jumped off the helicopter to make sure she, uh, they got back to the boat.
Dan needs the two of them to pick up the pace.
Shirtless Sawyer wants Dan’s shirt, but Dan feels they have more pressing matters than that; they should keep moving.
Sawyer calls a “time out”.
Dan wants him to trust him, but Sawyer doesn’t know him.
Dan tells him he doesn’t have time to explain things, “You have no idea how difficult that would be for me to try explain this, this phenomenon to a Quantum Physicist. That would be difficult. So for me to try to explain whatever is happening..”
Sawyer slaps him! And he threatens Charlotte for interrupting.
Dan explains the “Island” like a record, spinning on a turntable, now, that record is skipping. Whatever Ben did down at the Orchid Station, “I think it may have dislodged us.”
Dis-lodged them from time.
Juliet- “So, that’s our camp is gone. Because the island is moving through time?” {Aren’t we all moving through time? lol}
Dan-“Either the island is, or we are.”
This baffles Sawyer.
Dan- ”It’s just as likely we’re moving. Your people and us.
Not everyone in the group is accounted for...Locke.

Locke climbs up the hillside, walks through the grass and hears a motor rumble. He sees the Nigerian drug plane (Black smoke) fly over his head, and apparently crashes. He picks up a Virgin Mary statue.
John carries the statue through the jungle to the drug plane. There it sits above him. Black smoke pours out of the plane.
John calls outt7 to see if anyone is in there. He climbs up the roots.
John is shot at; hit in the right leg. It’s Ethan with a rifle, “Who are you?” ….” How many others on board?’"
Locke tells him he didn’t come on that plane (Drug plane).
Ethan- ”Wrong answer.”
Locke tries to chill out Ethan by revealing that he knows him, “I know who you are. Your name, your name is Ethan.”
Ethan seems intrigued, “Who are you?”
Locke, “My name is John Locke. I know this is gonna be hard to understand but Ben Linus appointed me as your leader.”
Ethan finds that ridiculous, “Goodbye John Locke.”
Then as Ethan aims…bright light…whooooosh! {Convenient, huh?} John’s in the dark.

Shirtless Sawyer and the gang are in the dark. They look around as if hearing something {perhaps?} Sawyer asks the Wiz kid, “When are we now?”
Dan tells him, they either in the past or the future. {Oh, friggin brilliant! We can only ever be in the past or the future. There is no present. Constant motion. NOW.}

Sun descends an escalator in the airport on her way to L.A.. She’s on the phone. {In the background you can hear ‘Flight 23 Paris to boarding at gate 15. Sun still wears wedding ring.}

She checks in at the Oceanic counter.

It’s evening. The attendant scans her passport; this apparently sends up a red flag.
She asks Ms. Kwon to wait there.
Sun is taken to a guarded room.
Sun bangs on the door to be let out, “Open this door! Open this door!”
Mr. Widmore appears, tells her to save her breath. “They only do what I tell them to do.”
Widmore had her brought in.
He’s insulted that Sun had the audacity to approach him in broad daylight, in front of his business associates. In public! Apparently she didn’t show him any r-e-s-p-e-c-t. {sing it!}
Widmore- ”I will be respected, Sun.” {The time on the clock approx- 9:22} That’s fair. Since she’s worried about her plane, he’ll get down to business. He wants to know about their common interests.
Sun- “To kill Benjamin Linus.”

Ben watches the news about the guy shot in his car outside Santa Rosa hospital. A private health care facility outside L.A.. {action 8 news} They misidentify the shooter as Hugo Reyes, who escaped the hospital earlier that evening.
Jack’s ready to “Go get um.”
Reyes lived at the facility for 2 years. Why Hugo would murder is a mystery.
Ben informs Jack, “Looks like we have a change of plan.”
Jack looks troubled.

Night, at the Rainbow drive in:
Sayid hands Hurley over his fast food order. {chicken}
Hurley offers Sayid a fry and suggests, “Maybe if you eat more comfort food, you wouldn’t have to go around shooting people.”
They pull up to a motel looking building.
Hurley asks who the dude was that Sayid shot outside Santa Rosa.
Sayid doesn’t care, he was armed and watching Hurley, that made him an enemy.  Sayid isn’t taking any risks after “Benthem died.”
Hurley-“You mean Locke.
Yes, he means Locke. Hurley feels he too needs a cool code name.
Dog barking...
Hurley in his Santa Rosa attire and eating a sandwich, asks Sayid when he became so paranoid. Sayid reveals, "If you spent the last 2 years doing the things I was doing, you'd be paranoid too."
He was working for Benjamin Linus.
Hurley is surprised that, "He's on our side now?"
Sayid tells Hurley if he ever has the misfortune of running into him, whatever he tells you, just do the opposite.
Sayid discovers there is a breach (tape) into the room. He protectively shoves Hurley to wait here.
Sayid gets into it with the two guys who were inside the room. Sayid throws one guys off the balcony.
Inside the room while fighting with the other guy, Sayid gets shot with a dart.   Sayid fakes being "out" then hits the guy with a pan.
They struggle some more.
The dishwasher conveniently opens with knives conveniently pointed up, and the bad guy falls on top of them.
Hurley, still outside, stares at the gun on the ground.  He picks it up and looks over the balcony. As a crowd gathers below him, a man takes a photo of Hurley holding the gun. Someone yells "The guys got a gun...Run...get out of here."   They scatter. {like bugs}
Hurley helps a weak Sayid out to the car.
Hurley comments, he thought it was supposed to be a safe house, "I never should have left that island."

Juliet leads the gang in the dark.
Charlotte asks Miles, “Do you think he’s looking for us?"
Miles- “Who?”
Widmore.
Miles shares that it took him like 20 years to find this place the first time. I’ll start holding my breath now.”
Juliet reveals the imploded hatch. {or exploded} It was the hatch.
Sawyer- “Blown up, just like we left it.”
Dan determines the “now” as after your people crashed on the island.” {Wow! He’s a fucking genius!} With that, it’s possible that the camp is back on the beach again, so Sawyer is going back, shirtless.
But Dan tells him it’s pointless. They don’t know when the next flash is coming, because by the time Sawyer got back to the beach the camp could be gone again.
But what if it aint?! What if the helicopter hasn’t taken off yet. They could warn them; Stop them from flying to the boat.
Dan rains on this parade, “It’s not the way it works.”
Sawyer-“Who says?” {Yeah! Who says?}
Dan- “You cannot change anything. You can’t. Even if you try to, it wouldn’t work.”
Why?
Dan explains time is like a street. "We can move forward and reverse on that street, but we cannot ever create a new street. If you try to do anything different, we will fail, every time. What ever happened, happened.”   {Is this the same as “the computer is only meant for entering the code, nothing else, BS?}
Sawyer asks Danny boy how he’s knows so much about this.  Danny boy knows about this because he spent his entire adult life {how long has that been?} studying space time.  He knows all this because “this journal contains everything he’s ever learned about the Dharma Initiative. This is why I’m here. I know what’s happening.”
Sawyer wants to know how they can stop it.
Guess what? You can’t stop it.
Sawyer, “Then who can?”

John, shot, in the dark jungle, lays on the ground.  He sees the over turned plane on the ground.
He limps his way over to it. {lots of cobwebs on it.} Virgin Mary statues {unburned} and skeleton are inside. John tourniquets his leg and leans against the plane.
A torch is approaching!
John readies himself with the knife.
It’s Richard. John asks what’s happening.
Richard-“What’s happening is you’re bleeding to death.” {Hmmmm}
Richard takes out an old {looks like Dharma} first aid kit, prepared to remove the bullet.  He tells John he knows about the bullet because John told him.
John says he didn’t tell him.
Richard-“Well, you will.”
John reveals it was Ethan who shot him.
Richard-“Well, what goes around, comes around.”    Ageless Richard wears spectacles.
John- “When am I?”  {When are you, what?}
Richard tells him that’s all relative.
John asks Richard, “The noise, when the sky lit up, Where did “you go?”   {Hugo. lol}
Richard-“I didn’t go anywhere. You did.”
The bullet is painfully removed.
Confused John doesn’t understand. He wants to know how Richard knew where to find him. Of course Richard wishes he had time to explain, “But you’re gonna be moving on soon and we need to go over a couple of things before you…”
He tells John he’ll need to clean out the wound every couple of hours and keep as much weight off the leg as he can.,“The island will do the rest, John.”
Richard tells him to pay attention, “The next time we see each other I’m not gonna recognize you.”
He hands John a compass.
John- “What does it do?”
Richard-“It points North, John.”
Again, Richard wishes he had more time to be more sensitive about this because it’s a lot to swallow.  “You need to know it in order to do what you gotta do.”    He’s just gonna say it…”The only way for you to save the island, John is to get your people back here. The ones who left.”
John thinks the chopper and boat thingy may have "killed" them.
Richard also explains they are fine and they’re already home. “So you have to convince them to come back.”
To accomplish this feat, John’s gonna have to die.
Bright light….Whoooosh!...
...Daylight. John, shielding his eyes, holds the compass. The drug plane is again perched up above him. {puffing black smoke}

Dark:
The gang looks  into the imploded hatch.
Miles- “What was this thing before you guys blew it up?”
Juliet tells the tale, “It was a Dharma Station…A man named Desmond was living down in it. He was pushing a button every 108 minutes to save the world.”  { Really?!}
Noise….Bright light…. Sawyer, “Son of a…..Whooosh!
Daylight…..Sawyer, “Bitch.”
Juliet sees the hatch is back! She says to Sawyer, “I guess you haven’t found it yet.”
She uncovers its window.
Frustrated Sawyer has had enough. He’s going in through the back door to get supplies. Dharma food, beer and clothing.   Dan tells James to wait. It’s not a good idea.
Sawyer- “The sky can flash all it‘s wants. I aint starting over, Dilbert. I aint rubbing 2 sticks together to start a fire and I aint damn boar.”
He’s getting Desmond to let him in one way or another.  Dan tells him that won’t work because Desmond didn’t know him when he first came out of the hatch. That means they never met. “Which means you can’t meet.”
Sawyer- “This would all be fascinating if I was listening to you.”
Dan asks how he knows it’s Des in there, “It could be anybody.”
Sawyer don’t care.
Dan tells him it won’t work.
Sawyer thinks it will. Sawyer starts banging on the door, “Open the damn door…. It’s the ghost of Christmas future.”
Dan- “No one is gonna answer you.”
Sawyer continues to bang and yell. Dan tells him he’s wasting his time, “If it didn’t happen, it can’t happen. YOU CAN’T CHANGE THE PAST, James!”
Sawyer grabs him, “Everybody I care about just blew up on your damn boat. I know what I can’t change.”
Juliet suggests they get back to the beach, “It’s been a long day.”
Juliet looks sad/troubled.
Miles asks why they’re going back to the beach if there’s nothing to go back to.
Juliet sarcastically says, “So stay here.”
Miles thinks she’s flirting with him.
Charlotte gets a nose bleed. She hasn’t had one since she’s little.
Dan looks in her eyes but she insists she’s fine. He doesn’t like the sight of blood. {me neither!} It’s a good thing he’s a physicist then. He stays behind to retrieve his pack from the hatch crater.
Charlotte- “Don’t Dillydally” and goes on ahead. {Ha! He wouldn’t think of it. Lol}

Dan flips through the pages of his notebook. Eureka! Dan knocks on the Swan’s back door, 5 knocks. He whispers, “Please let this work. Please….”
5 more knocks.
Out busts out a Yellow Haz-mat suited Desmond. Complete with rip in left leg and sportin' a rifle. Des pulls the gun on Dan wants him to explain why he’s been banging on the door for the last 20 minutes. {did Des hear Sawyer?} “Are you him?”
Desmond wants to know if Dan is his replacement. Nope.
Desmond- “Do I know you?"
Dan- “In a way, but that’s not important.” {WTF?} What is important is what he’s about to say to Desmond.
Dan-“You’re the only person who can help us because Desmond, the rules, rules don’t apply to you. You’re special. You’re uniquely and miraculously special.”
What the heck is he talking about???
There's a noise/high pitch buzz…they both look up into the trees. Dan goes on  telling Desmond if the helicopter got off the Island and he got home…Desmond doesn’t know what he’s talking about…Dan tells him to listen or people are gonna die. “My name is Daniel Faraday. And right now me and everyone else you left behind, we’re in serious danger. You’re the only person who can help us. I need you to go back to Oxford University, go back to where we met. I need you to go there and find my mother. Her name is…” Bright light…..Whoooosh!

Desmond sleeping and sweating; he wakes up. Penny asks if he’s alright.
Desmond- I was on the Island.”
Penny reminds him he’s been off the island for 3 years. He’s safe now. It was just a dream. Upset Des bolts up, ”It wasn’t a dream It was a memory.”
Desmond runs up on deck. {looks like Greece} They’re leaving to go to Oxford.

Because You Left is a GREAT EPISODE!

The "skipping"... is this the first time we’ve seen this? I’ve always felt like things were not in time order.  Is this the same thing, only heightened?  When see things like, Artz has a structure built to house his named jarred bug collection, Mikhail not dying, Richard not aging, Charlie in the front of the plane, but ends up on the beach, two versions of the bearing map in the helicopter, etc..
Does this “skipping” happen "off the "Island" too?   Why do we see two versions of Hurley’s lottery ticket? Why would Jack’s name be spelled differently?  If that’s “time travel” then it is showing things being changed (slightly).   But those changes/differences seem more like by-products of the dream state/altered state, the imagery of the experience, or even perception, happening in their heads/minds.
You know I NEVER throw out the metaphor possibilities in the story.

Let's use our brain power, Losties!

Things to Note…Questions to ask….
* Is there a glitch in the matrix? A bug in the system?
* Fake. Staged. Sets, cameras, script, etc. Fake names/ID
* Eye color.  Why would ageless Richard need glasses?
* Cheng, stage name Marvin Candle, wears (wedding ring) Swan logo while filming the Arrow orientation video. Both arms appear to be normal.
* Flash…Dream…Memory...Consciousness.
* RULES. Things cannot be changed. What ever happened, happened.
* The computer screen at the airport shows "adobe Photoshop"
* The zodiac makes it through the “skipping”, but not the tarps/tents/kitchen, etc….
* RAINBOW Drive In.   There was a rainbow patch on the pilot’s sleeve in S4. Somewhere over the rainbow.  We must be over the rainbow!
* X-ray/Sonar of the wheel.
* Cartoon. Comic references, names.
* Train in a tunnel. New York subway? Connecting Stations.
* Who is the baby with Pierre?
* ID-identity. No and/or new  identity.
* It seems they need to get their (moral) compasses to point North.
* The ID of the client wanting the blood work. Could it be Ben? Something like this would encourage Kate to be on the run again, make her want to go back to the "Island". Or is it someone else?
* Sheriff.
* Faraday reads his journal, realizing he is the one who is to knock on Desmond’s door.
* A Christmas Carol. A story about redemption; about becoming a better person. Scrooge experiences “life” through different time periods of his life. Past, Present, Future. This happens when he is sleeping in dreams and memory.
* Charlie killed Ethan in “Homecoming”.   How did John play into that? Did he kill Ethan?
* How come Richard didn’t go anywhere but John did?  That’s a pretty personalized fucking time travel.
* Richard tells John he wouldn’t recognize him. Really?!   This guy knows him forever! But John recognizes Ethan and the drug plane and Richard.
* Widmore is attached to Oceanic/Airline.
* When Locke takes Boone to the drug plane (and has a vision of himself in a wheelchair) Locke can’t walk.
* There are inconsistencies with these friggin' rules of “time travel”.    Faraday better go read some more playbook/strategy guide notes.
* Is the healing power of the "Island" due to said “time travel”?
* Jack isn’t the only one who left.  Desmond, Hurley, Sayid, Kate, Aaron and Ben all left.
* Starting over.
* Wouldn’t Widmore be privy to the “time travel” talents of the “Island”?
* Game.
* If there’s time travel, then there always was time travel.

Vocabulary and Research…

I thought about this “time travel” element a lot.  Maybe I didn’t think about it enough. I don’t know… it all gets so blurry and confusing.  I thought about the mad scientist angle, that maybe we are seeing a machine at work here, like Morel’s invention (from the book The Invention of Morel). A machine that can use projectors, records, etc and replicate people/reality.  Computers would work in conjunction with that. I thought about the “Back to the future” angle.   Checked out more research on time/space, food poisoning and spirits.   Maybe it’s reanimation or reconstitution.   I know we’re dealing with a unique LOST story, but that didn’t change the fact that I needed to keep some things in mind.   The “time travel” experiences of the Losties were bizarre.   There are verbal and physical interaction with people from the past, items disappearing while other items stayed, who remembers/recognizes people/things, who does not, who is effected by the Flashing, who is not.
Are there still mad scientists involved here?
Can't the “Island” residents just be crazy inmates or fugitives, prisoners living in psychiatric facility being manipulated, tricked and tested?   But this all would still serve a purpose...finding what you lost.

That brings us back to consciousness. The conscious and subconscious mind.

Let's touch on things pertaining to memory/the mind. Because I have scheduled my lobotomy already and I can’t back out now.
* In psychology, memory is an organism's mental ability to store, retain and recall information. Traditional studies of memory began in the fields of philosophy, including techniques of artificially enhancing the memory.
* Telescoping effect: the tendency to displace recent events backward in time and remote events forward in time, so that recent events appear to be more remote, and remote events, more recent.
* Misinformation effect: that misinformation affects people's reports of their own memory.
* Misattribution: when information is retained in memory but the source of the memory is forgotten.
* One of Schacter's Seven Sins of Memory, Misattribution was divided into Source Confusion, Cryptomnesia and False Recall/False Recognition.
* A mnemonic device is a memory aid. Commonly met mnemonics are often verbal, something such as a very short poem or a special word used to help a person remember something, particularly lists, but may be visual, kinesthetic or auditory.
* The word mnemonic is derived from the Ancient Greek word mnemonikos ("of memory") and is related to Mnemosyne ("remembrance"), the name of the goddess of memory in Greek Mythology. Both of these words refer back to("remembrance").
* Mnemonics in antiquity were most often considered in the context of what is today known as the Art of Memory. The major assumption in antiquity was that there are two sorts of memory: the "natural" memory and the "artificial" memory.
* Mnemonic verses are a type of mnemonic using rhyme, meter and meaning to help in remembering facts.
* In Mathematics: Matrix multiplication, a common mnemonic uses the song "Oh, My Darling Clementine". Row by column, row by column. Multiply them line by line. Add the products, form a matrix. Now you're doing it just fine!
* Echoic memory: Echoic Memory, the auditory version of sensory memory, refers to the phenomenon in which there is a brief mental echo that continues to sound after auditory stimuli has been heard. 3-4 seconds.
* rTMS: Repetitive Tran cranial Magnetic Stimulation: a noninvasive method to excite neurons in the brain: weak electric currents are induced in the tissue by rapidly changing magnetic fields (electromagnetic induction). This way, brain activity can be triggered with minimal discomfort, and the functionality of the circuitry and connectivity of the brain can be studied.

More bits…
* Metrodorus of Scepsis. Remember, Jack was experiencing scepsis after Juliet performed her appendectomy on him.
* Dharmachakra, “Wheel of Dharma”. Sometimes translated as wheel of doctrine or wheel of law. The symbol represents Dharma law in Hinduisn and the Buddha’s teaching of the path to enlightenment. The Dharmachakra symbol is represented as a chariot wheel with 8 or more spokes. The 8 spokes represent the Noble Eightfold Path of Buddhism.

Remember, we have heard straight from the horses mouth that we’re dealing with the conscious mind. WTF does that mean, really?!
All this skipping... the universe has a way of course correcting. Does history repeat itself? Could the word "universe" really mean "Island", which in turn may relate to something else completely. Yep!

Moral of the story…You can’t change the past. You can only learn from it.

Love to all who are "LOST" ™

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right! The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either! You all know I hate spoilers! And I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode, we all know what they are. Understood? Good! Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance! It will get very exciting as we progress into the story.

DSA Week 8. Beacon of Lucidity.

Hi Losties!
Happy almost premiere night!

This post may be considered spoilery but I don't think it is. We chat about the sneak peeks.

One more round of meds, anyone?  We're almost there!
This week's DSA email from Damon and Carlton is giving us a heads up to the first couple of episodes of season 5...and a bit more. (wink, wink)

Damon and Carlton claim to be heavily medicating themselves to overcome their anxiety of the approaching premiere. Wow! Something I can relate to. lol

They give us a clip to bring us up to speed after our 8 months off.
We're told that we're getting a two hour block and to expect a Hurley centric.
The two episode titles are, "Because You Left" and "The Lie".
These pick up where the finale left off.
We also get a slide show of cast photos set to Michael Giacchino music (from Comic Con).
The slide show was put together by the DSA team.

This week's password to enter the site: bharosa

Sneak peek:

On the boat, everyone is in different clothes. Hurley wears the same clothes.
Jack asks Hurley, “What about you?
Hurley- “I don’t we should lie, Dude.”
Jack tells him they have to protect the people, “We left behind, Hurley.”
Kate and Sun are shown. In a subtle manner Sun reacts to Jack’s statement.
Desmond and Penny sit with the group.
Hurley- "How's lying protect them?
Jack- "It protects “them” from Charles Widmore…The guy hired a boat load of people to kill all of us. He faked plane crash, you think telling him the truth, he’s just gonna, he’s gonna leave them alone?"
Hurley turns to Penny and asks, “Look. He’s your dad, right? Can’t you, like, call him off?” {Like a dog?}
Penny informs Hurley, there’s no calling her father off.   Sayid listens.
Hurley goes on to say, “The island disappeared. We all saw it. It’s gone. Bloop.”

Things to note…Questions to ask...
* Who really is behind the “faked” a plane crash”?
* Jack believes that Widmore is behind everything. I can’t help but wonder if there’s more to the story. Who is really behind everything? What are we really seeing?
* 2 sides. 2 choices... To lie or not to lie.
* Hurley is the one who is trying to be honest. Is he the one who is seeing "clearer"? Or is everyone else? Why is everyone else so willing to lie, as if they don't have a choice. Who is really doing the lying?
* Language/linguistics. Learning. Growth. Enlightenment.
* Island disappeared, Gone. Bloop.
* Underwater

Vocabulary and Research...
* Bloop- The Bloop is the name given to the ultra-low frequency underwater sound detected by the U.S. N.O.A.A. several times during the summer of 1997. The source of the sound remains unknown. The sound, traced to somewhere around South American southwest coast, was detected repeatedly by the Equatorial Pacific Ocean autonomous hydrophone array, which uses U.S. Navy equipment originally designed to detect Soviet submarines. According to the NOAA description, it "rises rapidly in frequency over about one minute and was of sufficient amplitude to be heard on multiple sensors, at a range of over 5,000 km." According to scientists who have studied the phenomenon it matches the audio profile of a living creature but there is no known animal that could have produced the sound. If it is an animal, it would have to be, reportedly, much larger than even a Blue Whale.
Bloop- In the ARG for the movie, the Bloop was also linked to Cloverfield monster.
• The title track from Dntel’s 2001 album Life Is Full of Possibilities, repeats a sample of the Bloop sound set to music.
• Because the Bloop noise originated near the location of the fictional sunken city of R'lyeh from H.P. Lovecraft’s story “The Call of Cthulu, Bloop has been linked to Cthulhu by the authors fans.

Bharosa- Indian/Hindu word trust in me/believe in me or trust/believe in something.

Passwords: LaFleur. Qilak. Adella Courey. Kapalaran. yksnizdar. emal. holma. bharosa.

In an additional continuation clip of this particular dialogue Jack asks Hurley if thinks anyone would believe him, they'd all think he's crazy.   Hurley feels that wouldn't be the case if someone backs him up.
He reaches out for Sayid's support, "Come on. They'll think I'm nuts if I tell the truth.  But what if we all do?"
Hurley feels if they can stick together, "we can make them believe us."
Hurley does not want to spend the rest of his life lying. He asks Sayid if he does.
Sayid says "No."

Another sneak peek/promo I do want to address is the one shown this week:
A dog is barking...(hmmm)
Hurley in his Santa Rosa attire, eating a sandwich, asks Sayid when he became so paranoid. Sayid reveals, "If you spent the last two years doing the things I was doing, you'd be paranoid too."    He was working for Benjamin Linus.
Hurley is surprised that, "He's on our side now?"
Sayid tells Hurley if he ever has the misfortune of running into him, whatever he tells you, just do the opposite.
Sayid discovers there is a breach (tape) into the room. He tells Hurley to wait here.
Sayid gets into it with the two guys who were inside the room. Sayid throws one guys off the balcony.
Inside the room, while fighting with the other guy, Sayid gets shot with a dart. Sayid fakes being "out" then hits the guy with a pan.
They struggle some more.
The dishwasher conveniently opens with knives conveniently pointed up and the bad guy falls on top of them.
Hurley, still outside, stares at the gun on the ground. He picks it up and looks over the balcony. As a crowd gathers below him, a man takes a photo of Hurley holding the gun.
Someone yells "The guys got a gun...Run...get out of here."   They scatter. {like bugs}
Hurley helps a weak Sayid out to the car.
Hurley comments, he thought it was supposed to be a safe house, "I never should have left that island."

Things to note...Questions to ask...
* Again we have hints to Santa Rosa, mental health, mind games, manipulation, crazy and nuts.-The Head.
* Game. Sides. Opposition.
* Apparently the safe house isn't so safe.
* Opposite. {Through the Looking Glass}
* Darts. The Other's use darts to knock people out or put them to sleep.
* Who do those thugs work for?
* Is Ben behind this attack? Is he behind the men showing up at Kate's wanting DNA blood work regarding Aaron's parentage? If so, Ben would know that would be something to kick start Kate into running again. Are any of these types of things a ploy to help motivate the Oceanic 6 into wanting to go back to that "island"?  They would think it was their idea to return to it. If that's the case, it's pretty friggin clever.

Just as in this week's DSA email, this week's sneak peeks also had some hints and references to mental health, psychiatric medication, things pertaining to what goes on in the head.   So, who's crazy beside me? Maybe I'm the one who is a paranoid, delusional, unstable and a gullible alien. My bed is still reserved at Santa Rosa. I wonder who else will be there? Maybe you! Is any of this making any sense?

LIE. I was taught to always tell the truth and never to lie. I've learned a lie can not go on forever. The truth will always come to the surface. We all know that life is a series of learning and experiences. We learn how to make choices and decisions, right or wrong. No one person is perfect. We learn from our mistakes. I have seen lies snowball into something so monstrous that it devastated many lives. No good can come from lying.

I'm sure there is a bigger lie lurking somewhere in our story.  If so, and it gets out, I wonder how it will affect everyone and everything.

Karma. What you put out there comes back to you. What comes around goes around. "It all comes back around"

Love to all who are "LOST" ™

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right! Things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either. I hate spoilers! I stand clear of reading certain sites, as to not take me off my own research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode, we all know what they are. Good! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues in bold.

January 12, 2009

Every man for himself.

Let's talk about LOST! Every Man for Himself.

We begin with a shot of the water and pan to Desmond sitting there; his wheels are spinning.
Claire is heard saying, "Aaron, Aaron."
Desmond watches them. {Campfires burning} He heads over to see Claire who is now writing in her diary. {With black pen, wearing 2 shirts}

Desmond tells her- "You've got a problem with your roof."
He feels Claire should move down to the beach just for tonight that way he can fix it; make some improvements. {Improvements!}
Aaron had just fallen asleep, but even so Desmond feels it will be worth it.
Charlie comes over and asks, "What cha doing brother?"

Desmond explains his offer to fix the roof.
Charlie lets him know if the roof needs fixing he can handle it, "I'm quite handy. I was building a church before Eko exploded." {Eko exploded? Not imploded?!}
Desmond backs off and walks away.
Charlie seems a bit annoyed- "I don't know. Gonna have to get that guy another button to push." {I just want to ask…How friggin' hot is Desmond?}

Jack is in his glass cell where he has the privilege of having a TV monitor set up on the other side of the glass; there is a cartoon showing on the TV.    The eyes of the cartoon bird/vulture watch a Swan with 3 little swans. The big eyed vulture puts up his Out to Brunch sign and salts a baby swan.

There’s a knock at the door.
The video camera watches Jack. {Red light blinking.} We can see the refection of TV in Jack's glass cell.   Jack heads back to sit in the corner of his cell.    {Juliet trained him well.

Juliet comes bearing food/bottled water and she makes small talk with him.
Jack wants to know if he's going to keep on watching cartoons or is she going to tell him why he's there.
Juliet asks him if he likes blueberry.
Frustrated Jack asks, "Should I talk to Benjamin? {Benjamin} Should I talk to Benjamin? Because I'm starting to think you're just the person who brings me my food."
Juliet- "You can talk to him all you want. But he won't tell you anything."
Jack- "You work for him?"
Juliet-"No. I don't for him."
Jack- "He's in charge."

Juliet-"It doesn't work that way over here Jack. We make decisions together."

Jack blurts out, "Cause when I was holding that broken plate at your neck, he seemed happy to let you die. I mean. It felt like he made that decision on his own."

Juliet looks hurt but insists Jack doesn't know what he's talking about; she "doesn’t answer to him." {Who do you answer to?}
Ben storms in because he needs Juliet, "The sub is back. We have a situation. So come with me now." {Sub? Submarine or substitute?}
They leave and curious Jack runs up to the closed door to listen.

We see a bloody body on a stretcher is being hurried through the jungle.

Sawyer and Kate are sleeping in their cages/cells.
Danny announces it’s- "Time for work."
They wake up.
Sawyer calls him Chinatown; making fun of Danny's bandaged hurt nose.   Pickett is looking for an excuse to "get" Sawyer.
Hot Sawyer thinking he’d get Pickett fired up says, "I thought I just did. What do I gotta do? Talk about your mother?"   {Fighting words! LOL}
Danny gets called via the radio; it's bad news.

Ben and Juliet come running over; It's Colleen who is on the stretcher.
Kate sees this and wonders, "What happened?"
Sawyer-"We happenedBeen on this rock long enough to realize they aint in the business of shooting each other. We did it. Our team."
This makes Sawyer happy, "Damn right I'm smiling. Cause we just got our ticket outta here."
Sawyer is rigging things in his cage so he can retrieve fish biscuits/food/water. {Using a black rock.}
Kate, twirling a string around her finger wants to know what Sawyer is doing.

He's thinking! {Is Kate trying to remember something?}
A Recorded woman's voice announces "Warning".
His reward is food. The water pours out the spout and it makes a stream. {Sawyers eyes follow it.} Sawyer tells Kate the girl on the stretcher is broken nose man's girl.
Kate informs Sawyer that they call him Pickett. {Kate heard that name? When? They called Danny.}
Again we see the water stream into a puddle.
Sawyer tells Kate, "Watch and learn little lady."
He explains, “That there's 'juice' pumping into this box from somewhere. The next time somebody comes to pull me out, I'm gonna wait till they step in my little swimming hole and I grab um. Zap! They fall back from the shock. I grab the keys. Bet the bears never thought of that."
{He's so proud.}
Kate- "You're both going to get electrocuted."
Sawyer- "Yeah, but I felt the jolts. I can take it."  {He can take electric volts. Hmmm}
Kate is impressed by his smarts.
Sawyer-"Well wipe the stars out of your eyes, Sweetheart. Cause we're gonna do this."
Kate asks about Jack.
Sawyer-"What about him? We don't even know if he's here. Hell. We don't even know if he's alive. We gotta take care of us. It's every man for himself, Freckles."

Sawyer is in a boxing ring. He is in prison. The guard calls him Ford.
Sawyer has black gloves and his opponent has red.
It happens to be mandatory chow time. Sawyer chats with his boxing partner. Calls him "Old and dumb". {Sawyer's number is 840}
On their way down the steps they see that there's a fight below.  The guy being the punching bag is Munson. Rumor has it he ripped off the government for 10 mil but they never found the money.
Sawyer’s friends say, "If your buddy the warden didn't keep breaking up the fights, Munson'd be a dead man." {So Sawyer is already buddies with him.}
Sawyer-"That son of a bitch."

Later we see Munson {248} busy at a sewing machine.   Sawyer, who is making his rounds, says to Munson, "You've been here what a week and you're on tote bag duty? I've been here 9 months. I'm still pushing trash."

Sawyer goes on to explain that the Warden isn't breaking up the fights because Munson is cute, it's because he's making a play for the 10 mil. 1st step, butter you up. Give you a plum job. Step 2, Warden will “reach out to your wife, use her against you. Text book con." {Is Sawyer speaking from experience here?!}
Sawyer is telling him all this cause the Warden has made his life a living hell for the past 9 months, "He gets that 10 mil you aint got, I just might have to kill myself."
The Warden comes over, eating an apple.  Sawyer asks what brings him over to the sewing shop. The Warden is sure to ask Munson if Ford is bothering him.
Warden-"Don't think I can't extend your stay, Ford. All it takes is one call. One call."
Ford shares a different type of eye contact with each man.

Sawyer in his cage comments about approaching Ben, “Oh yeah, the big Kahuna."
Ben stands close to Sawyers cage but not close enough to step into the puddle. "Lunch already?"
Ben asks Sawyer what he weighs; actually demands to know what he weighs.
Sexy Sawyer weighs 180 lbs-give or take. {Okay, I'll take} Ben asks how old he is.
Sawyer- "32.”
Ben-"Don't lie."
Sawyer-"35."
This pleases Ben.  Ben goes to open the cage and Sawyer pulls his arm; and with no shoes on tries to zap Ben.   Sawyer’s zapping bit is not working because they turned off the power.
Ben hits Sawyer and continues to beats him with his stick. {Little Ben really kicked some ass.}
Ben kicks him in the face knocking him out.

Sawyer starts to wakes up. {We hear, "Two days since the sky turned purple, we've been blind, our comms are all down, I can't get um back up again and in case you forgot Colleen's in critical..."}
Sawyer is now in a cell similar to Jacks. {How close is he to Jack?} He's strapped down to the table and he wants out! Jason and another guy are trying to inject Sawyer with a BIG needle.
Ben tells him-"It's for the pain."
Ben hates needles. {Huh?} Sawyer is struggling to get away.

We see Jack sitting in his corner eating but Jack can hear Sawyer's struggle through the intercom. {Yes, the intercom that's not supposed to be working!}

Back in Sawyer's "room" the two guys are trying to inject him. One guy explains to the other that "You have to go through the sternum, like in the movie." (Movie?} After counting to two they apparently plunge the needle into his chest. {Just like Jack did with injured Boone after he fell in the drug plane.}

Paulo is golfing with fruit. {Fruit in a basket} Desmond comes over and is going to borrow one of his clubs; Hurley said it would be alright. {Asked Hurley for permission?}
Paulo assumes - "Must mean you’re off to save the day."
{Does Paulo know what Des is up to? Paulo’s shirt has stars on the sleeve.}
Paulo tells Desmond to take the 5 iron. I never use it, "That way when you die in the jungle, doing whatever your doing, I don't have to go looking for it."
{Holy Shit! What does Paulo know?}
As Desmond walks away he suggests to Paulo that he "may want to square your shoulders a bit more."
Paulo asks if he plays golf.
Desmond replies he's “Scottish”.

Sawyer is still strapped to the table with two bandages on his chest. {They did not inject him directly in the center of the sternum where they pointed out (heart). They missed and hit off to the left side}
Tom comes in with a caged rabbit; number 8.
Ben rattles the bunny cage over Sawyer. He is rattling and shaking the cage to the point of what we see becomes blurred.
Ben yells at it, “Move, move, move, Come on, let’s move, Hippity hop!!” and the rabbit falls over.
Sawyer wonders if Ben just killed that bunny.
Ben asks Sawyer if he knows what a pacemaker is.    Ben explains that they stick them in the tickers of people who've had by-pass work whose hearts need just a little jump; a kick start. He goes on to tell him the rabbit had a small pacemaker set to deliver its kick start should it get too excited, or anxious or frightened. Or should it try to escape."
Ben then puts a 'watch'/'monitor' on Sawyer. Assuming Sawyer was telling the truth, his resting heart rate should be about 70 beats per minute. Your active heart rate however, that would be about 140", which will be the point that Sawyers pacemaker will cause his heart to explode. This is how Ben knows that he will start behaving now.

Ben frees Sawyer from his restraints and he explains the watch monitors your pulse. {94 bpm} "If you get within 15 beats of your danger zone, it will start to beep. If and when it beeps…you're gonna wanna relax yourself. Do some deep breathing…some yoga."
Sawyer asks if they want him dead why they don’t just shoot him, get it over with.
Ben says they are not killers. "If you tell Kate, what we did, what we put in you, that we're watching you, you tell her any of these things. We'll put one in her too."

Sawyer is returned to his cage. They each are given a bucket so they can wash up.
Tom, who is very courteous to Kate offers her other clothes; should the ones he left her doesn't fit. {Could Tom already know Kate? He acts like they know each other.}
As Sawyer rings out his sponge you can see his heart rate is 120.  Kate asked what happened. Sawyer lies says they just asked him questions. Kate wants him to turn around while she changes her clothes.  As he removes one bandage, he catches a glimpse of Kate's bare back.   His heartbeat hits 125, the beeping increases. {Time to take a cold shower, my man!}
Kate wonders what that is. He lies again and says it's his watch. She wants to know when he got a watch.
Sawyer-"Look, I don't tell you everything, now leave me alone, damn it!"
Sawyer does indeed douse himself with is bucket of water and his heart rate does slow down.

Sawyer is in the prison visitors room. Munson is across the room visiting with a woman with big boobs.   He and Sawyer make eye contact. Obviously there are video cameras around. {"No smoking in visitors area" sign.}
Cassidy comes to visit him; she calls him Sawyer.
Sawyer states, "It's James Ford.”
Cassidy was the person who had pressed charges. {He with cigarette. She's wearing 3 necklaces.} He's mad at her for putting him in there, but after all he conned her.
James just wants to know what she wants, "Come on. I've got license plates to make."
Cassidy shows him a picture of baby "Clementine"; his 'daughter. They are living in a university town in Albuquerque. She just wants him to write the child a letter.
He says the child isn't his.

Back in his cage Sawyer checks his watch and heart rate. {Resting heart rate?} Kate sees that there a possible way for her to escape the cage/cell.
Sawyer tells her to chill out, get the lay of the land.

Jack in his cell hears voices from the intercom. {The one that hasn't worked in years.} He hears "Everything's under control…You know what he's-doing- to Karl. He knows what he's doing….It was a mistake bring those two here." {Who is that talking?}
Juliet storms in and asks Jack for help with a gunshot patient.  Jack had assumed it was Sawyer's blood. Juliet needs his help.

A very loud buzzing alarm is going off.
Juliet and others are transporting a hooded/bag over the head Jack, so he can't see/blind where he’s been or going. The walk him right by Kate/Sawyer's cages.  Kate and Sawyer are calling out to him to get his attention, "Jack" ... "Doc".
Jack stops a moment, possible hearing them or something.

Jack is led to an area that has AREA OP 4 and AREA OP 5 with directional arrows on the wall.  Ben asks Juliet if she's lost her mind bringing him there.   But after all Jack’s a Doctor... Jack peers into the O.R. doors and goes straight into Doctor mode. {WHY is he helping these people?} He catches a glimpse of spine x-rays that are conveniently up, but they aren't Colleens. {X-rays show R with 2 marks/spheres inside of 2 circles}
Danny, whose shirt doesn't fit him, tells Juliet to tell him who did this, "He ought to know that!"
Check out how FOCUSED Jack is! Juliet is not a surgeon.
Jack says, "I know." {WOW! HOW?}

Ben, Tom and Danny watch from behind the glass observatory. Ben is very calm, just watching.
Colleen crashes. Jack needs the crash cart/paddles but conveniently it is broken.
Jack tried CPR.
Juliet seems very upset as she tells Jack they "haven't had anything happen/before".
Colleen is gone.” {Video cameras everywhere.}
We are shown Colleen's heart rate go from 60 to 109, 13, 39, 16}.
Jack calls Time of Death...He looks around; there is NO CLOCK {No sense of Time. Is she really dead? Weeeeeeeeee!}
LOOK AT BEN! He is amazing!

Very distraught Danny attacks and beats up Sawyer in revenge for Colleen’s death. During the beating he gets Kate to admit she loves Sawyer in order for the beating to stop. {Listen to Sawyers heart rate watch.}
Danny commands "Lock him up!

Ford sits reading Of Mice and Men.
Munson {248} comes to talk with him. {LOOK! it appears he is sitting in a vehicle parts like in auto shop or something. It reminds me of his set up on the beach!}
They men walk down a long hallway; video cameras are everywhere. Munson tells of his love for that woman... Ford tells Munson, "10 mil is a lot of greenbacks, killer.  It tends to change things. That's why you never get attached. 'Cause once you care, that's when they can come at ya." Everyone is involved in a con.
Munson-"What did yours want?"
Ford-"Something I ain't got."
Munson needs " him to move it, the money."
They both know he stole the money. "Lila hired a P.I. she's gonna find it. Do this for me. You have too."
Ford- "No. It's too dangerous. I'll be a walking target." {THAT’S IMPORTANT!}
Munson- "If you don't help me the Warden will get it all. He'll win."

In his cage Sawyer has a bucket of water and is cleaning himself up.   Kate is worried about sawyer so she climbs up and out of her cage. This upsets and concerns Sawyer, "Hang on a second Freckles. I told you the time aint right."
Kate-"You're the one who said we had to go." But that was before.
Kate realizes that they did something to him, enough for him to lie about it; and that scares her more than anything that they've ever done to them before. {HOLY SHIT!!}
Once at Sawyers cage, she wants to break off the lock and get the cage door open.
Sawyer wants her to wait, "You gotta leave me. RUN!"
Kate-"What did they do to you?"
He tells her to run, "It's everyman for himself."
The watch starts beeping.
Kate- "Why didn't you fight back?! Tell me the truth for once in your life!" {For once in your life!}
Sawyer- "If you really love me, go."
Kate tells him she only said she loved him so Danny would stop hitting him. {That comment was probably hurt worse than Danny's punches}
Kate climbs back in her cage, "Live together. Die Alone." {I wish I was a physically strong as Kate. I really do!}

Inside the video monitor room, Ben and Tom watch-everything. {Sawyer’s on camera 5. Ben controls number 2 controls} Tom tells Ben that Danny wants to kill Sawyer.
Ben feels, "Danny can wait."
Tom asks "Should I bring Shepherd back?"
Ben says no, he wants him to sit with her a while longer.
We see Jack on the monitor. {Why? Are you trying to get him to remember something? Punishment? What?}

Jack is cuffed to the gurney with the body still there.
Juliet comes in through double doors and apologizes to him for them putting handcuffs on him. She goes on to say that she is a fertility doctor and that she's not used to death. {That's because she creates life.} She tells him that the girls name is Cole, short for Colleen.
Juliet- "I should have come to get you sooner."
Jack-" It wouldn't have mattered. There wasn't any more you could have done. She was dead before you put her on the table." {WHAT?!}
Juliet is going to take him back now, "I'm sorry for bringing you here." {WOW!}
Jack grabs her hand and asks her whose x-rays are those, "They belong to a man about 40 years old. And whoever he is…He has a very large tumor on his L4 vertebra. And I just happen to be a spinal surgeon. So, you tell me. Juliet. Who am I here to save?" {How about yourself, Jack!}

The 5 iron has been made into a makeshift lightening rod at Claire's tent.
Desmond heads over to the 'kitchen' where Hurley is cutting up fruit.
Desmond looks at his own handy work.
Hurley asks Desmond “Is that, art?"
Desmond- "Nope. Just an experiment."
Hurley starts to walk away with his fruit salad but Desmond says maybe he should wait a minute. With that, Des gives him a 'wait and watch look'. Thunder/lightening/rain. A Flash of lightening hits Desmond's rod, saving Claire/Aaron and Charlie. {Yes, and Charlie.}

It’s night and Kate and Sawyer are asleep in their cages.
Ben is trying to wake up Sawyer.
Ben- "Pssst!, Psssst!"
Sawyer wakes up.
Ben –"Good morning. Let’s go for a walk.”

Ford is escorted by four guards through the game/play yard/field at prison. He is meeting the Warden. Two guards walk him down the steps. The Warden waits with two men in front of the Red boxing ring.
The warden shares with Ford that when they first brought him there he was just a dumb hick; now he knows better, "You're a dumb hick that knows how to steal."
One of the men with the Warden is Agent Freedmen from the treasury department. {This man's I.D. badge says State of Florida Department of Corrections}
Ford remembers who this man is; they know each other.
Ford reveals the "10 million's parked in a RED bronco parked in a 'store it quick' facility in Sawgrass. Right off 441. Unit 23C. That's where your money is."
The Warden tells him, as agreed the last 6 years of your sentence have been commuted, "As soon as the truck is recovered and the funds confirmed, your commission will be processed.”
Ford instructs them to set up a new account, it doesn't matter what bank. Make it in Albuquerque. Put it in the name Clementine Phillips. He wants to be sure she can never find out who the money is from.
Warden asks who she is.
Ford doesn't answer.
The warden congratulates him for lying and cheating his way out of prison, "You're a free man."

Ben and two guards are on a trek with Sawyer. It's not much further, just to the top of the next rise. There's something Ben wants him to see.
Sawyer quotes a line from “Of mice and men”... “Is it that place you always wanted, George?" He says to Ben, "Don't you read? It's from “Of mice and men” you'd like it, puppies get killed."
Nearing the top, Sawyers watch starts beeping. {125, 135}
Sawyer, looking a little woozy, comments to Ben about him killing him up there-his heart explode.
Ben tells him his heart will not explode, "The only thing we put inside you was doubt."
He confesses the watch is a heart rate monitor, nothing more. Ben takes out a white rabbit number 8 from his bag. {The beeping stops.} "We gave him a sedative, not a pacemaker."
Sawyer- "How do I even know it's the same bunny? That you didn't just paint an 8 on another one."
Ben-"You don't."
Sawyer punches Ben!
It turns out the rabbit wasn't the thing Ben wanted to show him.The reveal is another “island.
Ben asks him if he's ever been to Alcatraz, take the tour? "You're standing on an island roughly twice the size of Alcatraz. And that over there, that's your island. The one you've come to know and love."

He just wanted him to know there's nowhere to run.
Sawyer- "You did all this just to keep me in a damn cage?"
Ben –“We did all this because the only way to gain a conman's respect is to con him. You're pretty good, Sawyer. We're a lot better."
Ben comments that it wasn't the pacemaker that kept him in line; it's when he threatened her.
Sawyer works so hard to show her that he doesn't care or need her, “A guy goes nuts if he aint got nobody. It don't make a difference who the guy is. Long as he's with you. I tell you. I tell you a guy gets too lonely and he gets sick.’ It is from 'Of mice and men'. "Don't you read?"
Ben nicely says, "Come on. Let’s get you back to your cage."

Every man for himself is a GREAT EPISODE!!!! Why? Because it is every man for himself.

Things to note...Questions to ask...

CONS! Con-Game, Manipulation. “Text book con”.   We see that the Castaway's can be easily manipulated; talked into things, believe things.  They are conned about animals/people being dead. A couple of them know how to play the con game as well, but there's always somebody better at the game.
Is Desmond about to CON anyone? Yep!
What is going on in their heads?   “Going nuts“, “Out to lunch”..."..Goes nuts"...
Heart. Heartbeat Heart rate. Monitor. Implant.
Ben. The Warden.
Sleeping, dreaming, sedatives. Are people really "dead"? {Where’s Eko?} Are all these events really happening?
Watch. Being watched. Videotaped. Observation room/observatory. Monitor.
What’s with all the fruit?
Why is Jack made to watch cartoons? Is he a child?
✈  "A guy goes nuts if he aint got nobody...” Is this what happens to Jack, or anyone else who leaves the “Island“?
✈  References to plates again. Plates? Food? Or Plates on earth?
✈  The sub. If it's the submarine they're mentioning, it must only make little short trips around the Island. Like the 20,000 leagues under the sea ride at Disney!
✈  If the "Island" really has these 'magical' healing powers why doesn't it heal Colleen? Is she really dead? Maybe she was given the rabbit sedative.   Maybe it's a different rabbit, Uh I mean Colleen. lol. Remember Jack can't call her time of death! There is no sense of time!
✈  How sexy is Sawyer and Desmond? I know I adore Jack, but come on? Sawyer and Desmond... Yeah!!
Sawyer- "Well wipe the stars out of your eyes, Sweetheart" The same line that is heard in Locke's vision in Further Instructions.
✈  LUNCH! I can't tell you how many times the reference to lunch comes up. It's making me crazy! Sure, brunch comes up. So does breakfast and supper. But LUNCH! What the hell is the deal with friggin' lunch?!!! Is it important? Is something getting put in their food and water? OMG! Lunch!! I'm hungry!
✈  The sky turned purple knocking out visuals and intercoms, etc. What/Where is it they can't see now?!  Who can't they talk to? I can hear voices coming out of the intercoms!
✈  Where are the voices from the intercom coming from? {Talking about Karl in room 23?}
✈  The whole dialogue between Desmond and Paulo with the golf club is interesting. Paulo never assumes Des is going to play golf with the club. He only states that he's taking it to go 'DO' something with it. How does Paulo know that? Come on LOST fans...Think...Think!!
I still feel I need to revisit the song Le Mer for clues.
✈  I can't help but wonder…about Sawyer's hairstyle, clothes and surroundings in the “Flash”. It‘s all very much like “him” on the “beach“.  It is blurred/blended together.
✈  How is the "Island" hidden? Is there literally a dome/globe affect over it? Has it been there the whole time it's just no one can see it?
✈  Different "Islands",Two "Islands". Are there really two different "Islands"?   Maybe there’s more than two. Is it an illusion? If there is another island twice the size of Alcatraz how come they didn't even see it?
✈  Escape.
✈  Cheat
✈ 23
✈  The Blue Danube is the second part of the Looney Tunes cartoon, A Corny Concerto with the "vulture". I seem to have to ask this a lot…Who’s conducting this orchestra?
Electricity. Shock. Zapped by electric current. Lightening.
Prison. Cell. Are they in prison? Are they prisoners? Or could it be a metaphor for self imprisonment.

Vocabulary and Research...

Cartoon: The original meaning was in fine art, and there cartoon meant a preparatory drawing for a piece of art such as a painting o tapestry. It is most often refers to a humorous single-panel drawing or gag cartoon.
♦  Photographic plates were one of the earliest forms of photographic film in which a light-sensitive emulsion of silver salts was applied to a glass plate.
♦  A plate: is a type of electrode that formed part of a vacuum tube. The plate is impressed with a positive charge so that it may capture and flow electrons within a circuit.
♦  In baseball and related games: home plate is the final base that a player must touch to score. Unlike the other bases, home plate is a pentagon and is hard, usually a slightly flexible hard plastic with beveled edges that rises only slightly above ground level.
♦  Plate tectonics: (Greek builder" or "mason") is a theory of geology that has been developed to explain the observed evidence for large scale motions of the Earth's lithosphere.
♦  Pacemaker (track) or pacer:, a competitor who enters a race with little or no intention of winning, but purely to set a fast pace for other competitors to follow.
♦  Coal: is a fossil fuel formed in swamp ecosystems where plant remains were saved by water and mud from oxidation and biodegradation. Coal is a readily combustible black or brownish-black rock. It is a sedimentary rock, but the harder forms, such as anthracite coal, can be regarded as metamorphic rocks because of later exposure to elevated temperature and pressure. It is composed primarily of carbon along with assorted other elements, including sulfur. It is the largest single source of fuel for the generation of electricity worldwide.

Are things we see a fantasy, illusion, made up, razzle dazzle, trickery or magic?  Is it in their heads, a dream or experience, experienced in their conscious/subconscious mind?   Is everything just blurred together?
I still see clues to those lucid dreams/waking dreams {happening in the mind/consciousness} I mentioned. If it is a dream, whose dream is it?   Is it one big CON?
Here Sawyer is in prison, so I must ask, are there ties to other Castaways and prison?

Here's the most important thing I have learned through all of this...It's ALL in the details, and they are fucking wrong.

Love to all who are "LOST"™

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right! The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either! You all know I hate spoilers! And I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode; we all know what they are. Understood? Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance.
